About HerbaLog

We document traditional uses, available research, known safety concerns, and unanswered research questions. Inclusion does not establish that a remedy is safe or effective.

What we publish

We describe a use as a reported use until clinical evidence supports stronger language. We preserve cultural provenance while separating community reports, historical documentation, laboratory findings, animal research, human studies, and evidence syntheses.

We do not publish a health claim from a title and general description alone. Every proposed entry must pass the evidence and safety review below.

Required evidence record

  • Scientific or standard identity and common names
  • Plant part or material used
  • Preparation and route of administration
  • Reported dosage, with uncertainty clearly stated
  • Condition and population
  • Traditional-use origin and cultural provenance
  • Research citations and study type
  • Human, animal, laboratory, or community-report evidence
  • Sample size and important limitations
  • Known toxicity
  • Medication interactions and contraindications
  • Pregnancy, child, liver, and kidney cautions
  • Submitter and reviewer conflicts of interest
  • Review date and revision history

Visible evidence levels

Evidence type and confidence are recorded separately. A human study may still have serious limitations, and an evidence synthesis may conclude that evidence is insufficient.

Publication gates

Crawler or submission→Staging→Identity check→Source check→Safety check→Evidence grading→Independent recommendation→Publication decision

The crawler never publishes automatically. A reviewer may inspect an entry, a recommender may recommend a decision, and a separately authorized publisher makes the final publication decision. High-risk material should receive review by more than one person.

We reject or quarantine entries that:
  • promise a cure or guaranteed result;
  • tell a reader to stop prescribed treatment;
  • lack identifiable sources or omit the preparation or material used;
  • concern cancer, diabetes, pregnancy, children, or another high-risk population without qualified review;
  • involve potential toxicity without adequate safety information; or
  • come from a seller who has not disclosed that interest.

Our evaluation approach is informed by the WHO methodology for research and evaluation of traditional medicine. This reference does not imply WHO endorsement of HerbaLog or any listed remedy.

Editorial independence and funding

  • Sponsors cannot approve, suppress, or rewrite evidence.
  • Donations do not purchase favourable listings or evidence ratings.
  • Seller payments do not confer verified status.
  • Relevant conflicts of interest appear with the evidence record.
  • Research funding and general operating support are reported separately.
